Dermaplaning Pre-Treatment Instructions

To ensure the safest treatment and the best possible results, please review the following instructions prior to your dermaplaning appointment.


One Week Before Your Appointment

To reduce skin sensitivity and minimize the risk of irritation, discontinue the following products

unless otherwise directed by your provider:


Retinol and Retin-A® (tretinoin)

Glycolic acid

Lactic acid

Salicylic acid

Mandelic acid

Benzoyl peroxide

Prescription exfoliating medications

Physical exfoliating scrubs or cleansing brushes


*If you are unsure whether a product should be discontinued, please contact our office.


Avoid Before Treatment

Please postpone your appointment if you have:

- Active cold sores or a herpes simplex outbreak

- Open cuts, abrasions, or sunburn

- Active eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis in the treatment area

- A bacterial or fungal skin infection

- Inflamed acne lesions or cystic acne in the treatment area

- Recently waxed or chemically depilated the treatment area (within 5–7 days)

- Recently received a medium or deep chemical peel before your skin has fully healed

- Recently had laser resurfacing before your skin has fully healed


If You Are Using Prescription Acne

Medications

Please inform your provider if you are using:

- Tretinoin

- Adapalene

- Tazarotene

- Trifarotene

- Clascoterone

- Oral isotretinoin (Accutane®)


*Patients currently taking isotretinoin or who have recently completed treatment may not be

candidates for dermaplaning until cleared by their provider.


Notify Your Provider If You

- Are pregnant or breastfeeding

- Have diabetes or delayed wound healing

- Have a history of keloid scarring

- Have allergies to skincare ingredients or latex

- Have had recent facial surgery

- Have a history of frequent cold sores

- Are taking blood-thinning medications

- Have recently received Botox®, dermal fillers, microneedling, chemical peels, or laser treatments


24–48 Hours Before Treatment

- Avoid prolonged sun exposure.

- Do not use self-tanner on the treatment area.

- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.

- Stay well hydrated.

- Avoid facial waxing or threading.


Day of Your Appointment

Please arrive with:

- Clean skin free of makeup

-  No sunscreen, moisturizer, or facial oils

- No self-tanner on the treatment area

- Hair secured away from the face if possible


For the Best Results Prior to treatment:

- Drink plenty of water.

- Wear sunscreen daily.

- Avoid excessive sun exposure.

- Follow your provider&#39;s skincare recommendations.

Healthy, well-hydrated skin allows for a smoother treatment and optimal exfoliation.
